Qingdao Port expands global shipping network with record new routes

Qingdao Port has made significant strides in route and channel development this year, achieving a historic milestone with the addition of 11 new container routes, six international transshipment channels, and five sea-rail intermodal routes.
From January to May, the port introduced three routes connecting countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, two routes to the west and east coasts of the United States, and two routes to South America. This expansion strengthens connectivity with traditional trade regions like the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and North America while reaching into emerging markets such as South America.
In June, Qingdao Port further expanded its service network with three new routes, including CMA-CGM's South America route, Sinotrans' Haiphong route, and a joint Indonesia route operated by PIL and HMM, enhancing its competitive edge in key shipping lanes.
These expansions have optimized Qingdao Port's global shipping network, offering more efficient international logistics channels. By reducing transportation costs and transit times for regional import and export businesses, the new routes are enhancing the foreign trade competitiveness of Shandong province and surrounding areas.
The increased connectivity is also driving growth in container throughput and fostering synergistic development within the port's adjacent industries. With this strategic expansion, Qingdao Port continues to solidify its role as a crucial hub in global trade and logistics.
